Why I Wander

“Wanderlust: n. a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world”

My Darlings,

Why do we wander, why do we travel, why do we have the insatiable need to Adventure, to connect, to explore the unknown? I am sure we have all seen the millions of quotes about wanderlust and travel and no matter how many times you see the quote it always brings forth a smile, a feeling, and a memory! And that simply is why I believe we must wander….to live and build a personal story that makes us smile or even cry…but to remember and learn about ourselves and the world!

Who am I?

My husband and I are currently traveling as much of the world as we can with our wonderful Wandering Pup…and Wandering Kitten! We both have a passion for traveling and always have.

Every week we try to go someplace that we have never been before! We have traveled to places such Iceland, Germany, Austria, France, The United States, Ethiopia, Kenya, Poland, Switzerland, Italy…and a few more… We are currently based in Germany and have so many Adventures planned on our Bucket List! Such a big world to explore! I love reading and watching all of your adventures and finding more hidden gems to explore! So please share some of your travels and any tips and tricks you have picked up! Let’s Wander the World Together!

Personally, I have visited 19 countries in total and visited 88% of the United States! I am only missing 6 states (visited 44 so far)..which definitely must be remedied soon!

My husband has visited 20 countries in total and visited 90% of the United States! He is only missing 5 states (visited 45 so far)! He is slightly winning…but it is not that far of a lead 😉

The Wandering Pup loves to travel as well! Her name is Victoria and she is an almost 14-year-old Doberman Pinscher Rescue. We recused her in Alabama and she was literally afraid of her shadow and wouldn’t move or even go outside without hours of coaxing. However, after almost 10 years she has come out of her shell and found a new passion in life for travel! It really does heal the soul! Her favorite places in the world now are Castles and if you say “Castle” she jumps up and wags her tail, ready for the next adventure! She has visited 36% of the United States (18 states), and 8 different countries!

Why I started this Blog

I currently post pictures from our Adventures every day to Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/my_darling_lets_wander/). I love following all of your profiles on there and saving the locations to my ever-growing Bucket List. It is kind of like a game! Sometimes I will see a beautiful picture of an obscure gate or a waterfall and I will plan a whole trip and search the town for that hidden location!

I also have a YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW76Sdf74vWSPA5kK21Djdg where I post some videos from our travels! I try to include some history or folklore of the places we visit as I have always been interested in these aspects of travel! One of my favorite videos so far tells the story of a hidden treasure chest hidden under a waterfall in Iceland! Many people have tried to find the treasure but no one has yet to succeed, except for a gold ring that was pulled from the waters! The legend states:

Richly stacked in Þrasi’s Chest

Under Skogar’s waters cold.

Whosoever goes there first

will find wealth untold.

I also have a 5 minute Meditation Video Series, where you can spend 5 minutes just relaxing in a tranquil place that we found during our wanderings! If you would like to read more of the rationale behind why I created the series check out my blog post here https://mydarlingletswander.wordpress.com/2019/08/06/5-minute-meditation/

I also have a Pinterest profile (https://www.pinterest.com/MyDarlingWander/) which I religiously use to help plan the intricacies of our travels. I have found amazing blogs that offer information about restaurants in the area or where to get the perfect photo of a sunset over the Grand Canal in Venice! I have a board for every continent, and my dreamer self fully believes that we will visit every single one of these locations!!

I started this blog because when we plan our travels I always end up visiting like 10 or more websites, blogs, and travel reviews trying to prepare for the trip. Yet, as you know, no matter how much planning you do, there is always something else that happens of which you were unaware. Therefore, I am trying to put together a blog that encompasses all of this research and a few extra anecdotal tips and tricks. Personally, I would like to eventually use these blogs as a quick reference, combining everything from the Interwebs, Instagram, and Pinterest in one spot for when we visit the places again..and maybe you can use it to help you plan your adventures as well! Please feel free to comment on the blog, email me, or even contact me through Instagram or Pinterest with any more questions about the trip or any advice from your personal experience with traveling to the location! I love the travel community and I have connected with so many amazing people online that have taught me so much about traveling and adventure! So please feel free to share your Wanderlust and, My Darlings, Let’s Wander the Entire World!

Enjoyed reading a little bit about you. I love hearing people’s stories. It is one of the things that inspired me to quit my job, sell my things, move abroad, and start my blog… to, hopefully, inspire others, hence “Travel Inspire Connect”. Good luck!

Travel is fascinating and inspiring and was one of my dreams. After reading your
interesting post I quickly counted countries that came to mine and arrived at 17.
    Plus 10 States in U.S.
it is fascinating though how much you can experience on a shorter trip on a river or canal
or just a boat trip along your own coast.

I met a farmer up on Yorkshire moors and he queried me about my travel. I asked him if he does go abroad.
He spread his arms wide, including the wondrous vistas around us, and said. I have all this,
why go away? I never forgot that.

I love that sentiment!! I agree! You dont have to fly to a far away land to explore or adventure! I am always suprised at the hidden gems that surround us..sometimes only a short walk down the road! Any place can be an Adventure!!

And yay we are in the same club with 17 countries visited! 😁🌍😁 Well my husband is in same club lol

    Dear friend

It is lovely to go and see different places and cultures all over the world. I also like travelling and visited already 24 countries. In the USA just three states (California, Arizona, and Nevada).

So I wish you a nice time in Germany now and many more countries to visit.
    All the best

I have several places connected with beautiful memories: the best what I have seen was 1000 km northwards from North-cap, in Norwegen, not so much far away from the Northpole, on Svalbard, an island group with only about 2000 people living there. There are more polar bears than human beings and the nature is still, more or less untouched by man – we made a boat-trop around these wonderful, idyllic islands. Second best place for me: Iceland – as the nature changes its dress every 5 minutes from craters to light blue lakes, waterfalls, areas of which you think they are from ancient times formed of lava and geysirs, earthquakes and vulcono eruptions. Really fascinating. 3. USA – we made a round trip there in those mentioned three states: we had adventure, mountains and the sea and enjoyed the time there as well. Also the nature is beautiful over there.

Another country I consider as very much interesting is India: the very old culture and buildings from old kingdoms, the place where many Sants and Saints, Rishis and Munis used to live and gave wisdom to the whole mankind.

But each country has its own beauty, indeed.

        All the best, my friend
        Didi

        Welcome, dear friend.
When going to Island, try to make around-trip (we did it in 2 weeks, but it also can be done in 1 week). Close to Reykjavík there is a wonderful lagoon called “Blue Lagoon” – you will surely like it to take a bath in it. Once in it, you do not want to come out, because it very pleasant and warm and also very healthy. Not far away from Reykjavík you also find a big waterfall: called the Golden Waterfall; in Akureyri, in the north, you can make a whale watching tour. In Haukadalur there are two geysirs, also very fascinating to visit.
For this trip I wish you a wonderful time – you surely will be very much impressed.
        Good journey, dear friend 🙂
